I've already got plans for one league on ESPN, Yahoo, and MLB.com

LM’ing, I prefer ESPN because you can edit the league page and add pictures and a chatbox, etc. Yahoo, as of last year, is very plain, and it was incredibly slow last season for me for whatever reason, but I preferred it to ESPN overall until then, so whatever.

So will NoPants be the LM?

I was just volunteering if you needed someone. I don’t particularly feel the need to do it. It’s just that I’ve done it before and have been playing for a long time, and in a league full of guys who may not be as experienced or have any experience, I thought I’d help out, and I don’t even mind giving helpful tips to opponents to help them learn. I’m not going to ask for a second, though. I’m not familiar with half the list, and none of them have ever played in a league with me before, so what would they be seconding based on?

I'm not asking you to ask for anything, I just want to make sure that at least one other person in the league is comfortable with you in charge, I don't think that's a lot to ask

and I would ask it of anyone since that’s all new guys that didn’t play last year where Tiers 1 & 2 area all comebacks and Gilly played last year as did some of the other guys in that division.

If I recall correctly, I pretty much dominated last year.

That gives a 25 man roster, and it’s deep enough so that you have to actually look around a little for talent on the wire instead of having an obvious replacement always readily available, but it doesn’t make the talent that scarce, only drafting the top 250. For offense, anyway. Pitching will be easy to come by depending on how the league uses their benches.

I don’t particularly care about trade deadline, waiver time, lock time, or crap like that.

I also like to play vetoes as league vote, not LM.

Set the playoffs up so that each intraleague series is one week with the finals for each league finishing up two weeks before the end of the season. I don’t really care how you break down the pitcher stuff. Otherwise looks pretty solid. Gilly, Topper, and Sandals I’m sure will have their tweaks.

We should probably hammer out two to three different arguments and then take a poll. I like the idea of being able to win it all from anywhere, seems like less seniority and forces you to be on your toes more. If you want to avoid the bottom tier then you have to at least be in the top half of your league. Make the playoffs and you’re most likely either tier 1 or 2, especially if we have drop outs.

We will rank by all team’s records as we did going into this year, but let’s regress this with another 240 games at separate weights depending on tier:
Tier 1 .600
Tier 2 .550
Tier 3 .500
Tier 4 .450

So if you were in tier 1 and had a .506 Win% then that would regress to .553. If you had a .506 Win% in Tier 4 then that regresses to .478. We then rank by this weighted Win% or wWin%. We can tweak the win% weights and also how heavily we regress, but those details can be worked out later. For now, look at how last years ranks worked out:

Now let’s assume for a moment that red was Tier 1, Blue was Tier 2, Yellow was Tier 3, and Green is Tier 4, here’s how this looks with wWIN%:

You can still climb from Tier 3 to Tier 1 as Topper did or fall from Tier 2 to Tier 4 as Chin Music Jihad would have, but you’re not punished as harshly if you’ve already earned Tier 1 status.

I feel this is a nice compromise, but would like to know how others feel.

That’s going to take a few days to get everyone’s input with their schedule and stuff, and then a little while longer to vote on a day, etc etc etc. The other ESPN league I run took about a week to decide a draft time from listed good/bad days/times to finally agreeing on a specific time.

It's just an example, there's no way we were Tier 4 last year

Honestly, if you do it this way- It'll be way more confusing. Half of the people in tier 4 (my league) quit last year

And I’m not sure this will be as easy for inviting people.

But if we roll with this and there is actual participation in tier 4 (non-frequent DRB readers), I could see it workout (maybe)

Well new guys will continue to automatically get slotted in Tier 4 upwards, We'd probably still realistically have three full tiers and then one for new guys

If you’re not complete ass then you should always be in tier 1 or 2 if you play every year.

I don't see why you can't have relegation AND interleague playoffs

Use the regular season for relegation purposes, and the interleague post-season as simply bragging rights. That way, there can endless arguments about whether it is more impressive to win the toughest Tier in (fantasy) baseball, or to win the crapshoot of a (fantasy) “championship”

Yeah, that's happening anyway, I have no idea if we should let the four playoff teams have automatic exemptions to Tier 1. That seems fair with everyone else then slotting from there.

There’s no reason for Tier 4 team to hop up to Tier 1 by virtue of simply making the playoffs. Maybe give the playoff champ an exemption to the top tier, but winning a non-competitive league isn’t really much of an accomplishment in and of itself.

It's almost exclusively filled with new players this year, I'd think you could throw them one bone, but you're probably right that it should be earned
